Urban and Community Forestry Awards of Excellence

TUFC presents Awards of Excellence for outstanding leadership, education efforts or activities that have made a significant contribution to establishing and maintaining viable community forests in Tennessee.

The award program is sponsored by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry.

Nominations are welcome but must be received by July 31.

Categories

  • Builder/Developer Award: Recognizes a company or corporation that has done an outstanding job of protecting and maintaining trees during the project construction process.
  • Citizen Activist Award: Recognizes an individual person not employed in a related Green Industry area whose dedication has made significant and outstanding contributions to urban forestry at the local, regional or state level.
  • Government Employee Award: Recognizes an individual working for a government agency who has made outstanding contributions to the urban forestry effort at the local, regional or state level.
  • Green Industry Award: recognizes a company or organization that shows leadership and dedication to advancing urban forestry efforts at the local, regional or state level.
  • Media Award: Recognizes an electronic or prints media entity that has made a significant contribution to trees and/or urban forestry in its community or region.
  • Private Professional Award: Recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the urban forestry effort at the local, regional or state level. The individual must work for a company whose business is related to urban forestry.
  • Tree Board Award: Recognizes a local board or committee that has made outstanding accomplishments in completing urban forestry projects, provided exemplary leadership, and made significant progress in meeting the goals of their local urban forestry program.

Eartha Reeves

Citizen Activist: Eartha Reeves

Eartha Reeves established the Glenview Park Arboretum in the heart of Memphis. She began educating her housing association in 2008, then involved many citizens, academic institutions, media, and officials in establishing the Level 2 arboretum. Several events celebrating trees and educating citizens on trees have been held at the park.

Peter Richards

Media Award: Peter Richards

Peter Richards is the host of WKNO Memphis TV’s "Family Plot, Gardening in the Mid-South." The show has promoted proper tree care, mulching, and planting to viewers in six states. The video clips from the show have been viewed by tens of thousands of people in 47 countries on youtube.

Scott Woods

Private Professional: Scott Woods

Scott Woods has been the owner and president of Timberline Tree and Lawncare since 1999, providing tree and landscape care in five states. A charter member of TUFC, he became the first certified arborist in the state in 1987. He has spent countless hours promoting trees.

Carol Ashworth

Green Industry: Carol Ashworth

Carol Ashworth has used her license in Landscape Architecture to improve private owned property and the Metro Nashville area for 24 years. She started Ashworth Environmental Design in 2003. Besides designing for area green infrastructure, she also designs for low-impact stormwater run-off.

Randall Lantz

Government Employee: Randall Lantz

Randall Lantz is the superintendent of horticulture in Nashville’s Metro Parks and Recreation. He and his crews provide all the landscape services needed in the city from parks and greenway properties, to schools and street right of ways. He also coordinates the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show.
